Volunteers are the HEART of Heartland Hospice! We are looking for Veterans who live in Rockford, or a surrounding community, to join our growing team of volunteers! We recognize that Veterans share a special bond. The goal of our Vet-to-Vet Volunteer Program is to match Veteran patients with a hospice trained Veteran volunteer who may have a similar background. Veteran volunteers can provide friendly visits to Veteran patients and their families. Others may participate in our We Honor Veterans pinning ceremonies. As a volunteer, you help determine which tasks you’re best suited to perform. Hours are extremely flexible and scheduled according to your availability and location. If you've got a little extra time to give to a Veteran patient, call or email Heartland Volunteer Coordinator, Taylor, today to learn more about our unique volunteer opportunities: 815-397-3691; taylor.king@heartlandhospice.com. Veteran Volunteer requirements: must be at least 18 years of age; agree to a background/reference check; have reliable transportation; and attend an orientation where you'll learn about the philosophy of hospice and our company, how to effectively communicate with our patients and their families, and the volunteer role.

Description
Heartland Hospice volunteers offer support, companionship and practical, compassionate help. Some interact directly with patients and families. Others prefer to work behind the scenes in the office setting. As a volunteer, you help determine which tasks you’re best suited to perform. The tasks of volunteers include:
- Helping with office support tasks at the agency
- Running errands for patients and families
- Staying with patients so family members can get a much-needed rest
- Reading, or providing a comforting touch
- Playing or singing soothing music to patients
- Keeping vigil with patients in their final hours
These and other tasks are why hospice volunteers are such an essential part of the Heartland experience.
