Our S.P.A.R.K. (Support Program for Art and Reading with Kids) is in great need of volunteers to work with our kiddos grades Kindergarten-5th. S.P.A.R.K. operates Monday-Thursday from 3:15 to 5:45 and focuses on homework help, reading comprehension, art, and creative play. Volunteers are invited to serve as mentors and tutors and will assist students with homework assignments, and increasing reading comprehension and writing skills. Volunteers will also engage with students through crafts, recreation, and game play. During the summer months S.P.A.R.K. extends to an all-day program. The focus still remains on reading skills, but the kids also take weekly field trips. Children are also given two full meals and a snack to combat the increased risk of food insecurity during the summer months.

About The Urban Mission

Location:

Mission Statement

"Giving help today for hope of a better tomorrow!" Our goal is to help disadvantaged people in central Oklahoma by assisting them increase their food security.

Description

We are a client choice food pantry, this means that the families are able to choose what food would be the most helpful for their family. This includes fresh produce and food with a longer shelf life. Our volunteers assist clients with their shopping and help stock the shelves. We also have an after school program for low income children that focuses on art and reading and provides them with a well-balanced, warm meal each evening.
