Think of hearing history from someone who has lived it! Many of our elderly recipients have lived through and been exposed to many experiences in their lives. Sharing these memories or other enjoyable activities is often the highlight of their day or sometimes even their week. Volunteers can offer a couple of hours a week reading, helping write cards, or playing cards or board games. Caregivers is a non-profit organization that helps those who are elderly or disabled maintain independence and quality of life in their home environments. A volunteer's visit not only brightens the life of an elderly person, it could become a valuable experience for the visitor.
Enriching lives and supporting individuals to remain independent through a compassionate volunteer program.
Community Caregivers of Greater Derry has been in existence for the past 33 years. The organization has focused on the needs of the elderly and disabled in our community. The intent of the program is to help those who have difficulty maintaining independence and quality of life because they are elderly, temporarily or permanently disabled, recuperating from illness or dealing with chronic illness. Services such as friendly visiting, grocery shopping, light chores and medical transport are offered through an incredible network or caring and committed volunteers. We serve the towns of Chester, Danville, Derry, Hampstead, Londonderry, Sandown and Windham. We also run a "Loaner's Closet" of used, durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, shower chairs, and commodes available to anyone in the community FREE for as long as needed.
