Drop In Pet Therapy Volunteer
Hospice of the Chesapeake provides a range of support services to individuals living with and affected by advanced illness. These services are provided wherever the patient calls home, regardless of their inability to pay.
All our patients regardless of financial status receive the best possible quality care. We provide hospice and other palliative care, as well as compassionate support and education.
What does Pet Therapy Do?
Pet therapy is proven to reduce pain, anxiety, and depression. It provides a unique layer of support for our patients and their families that lead to smiles, laugher, and an increase in positive feelings.
We need dedicated and compassionate volunteers to join our robust Healing Arts Program with their four-legged, Canine Companions to visit our patients and their family members.
If your dog is not certified, but you would like to get ithem certified, please contact us for information on how to do so. All dogs must be certified prior to working with patients. Our partner Dogwood Acres provides Pet Therapy Certification. Your pet will then be able to volunteer not just at HoC, but in other therapeautic capacities as well.
Where Will I Volunteer?
We offer inpatient care, as well as outpatient care throughout Prince George's county. We will work with you to find the most convenient locations for you, as well as work around your schedule.
Benefits of Volunteering for HoC:
- Opportunity for a variety of certifications, which can be used professionally
- Scholarships available for certain Healing Arts certifications
- Many patient care volunteers later go on to specialize in other roles such as Vigil Volunteers or Grief Support Volunteers
- Possible Tax Deductions
