Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. We want to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you find access to shelter. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know the most effective ways to contribute.

We are licensed, accredited by the Joint Commission, and have been awarded the Maryland Association on Non-Profit Organization's Seal of Excellence for successfully completing the Standards for Excellence program. The award is based on commitment to excellence in governance, clinical service and financial management; a distinction earned by fewer than 5% of non-profit organizations in Maryland. The Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations representatives offered congratulations to Hospice of the Chesapeake for being "a true leader in your commitment to ethics and accountability in the nonprofit sector."

Hospice of the Chesapeake provides flexible scheduling and allows volunteers to work from whatever location is most convenient for them. The volunteer services coordinator took into consideration my preferences as well as my skill set to help me find a place within the organization that I enjoyed most and also performed best at.
I have several additional certifications I can now use on my professional resume which will serve me better in the future, and were made available at no cost. I can obtain as much training and certification as I please, but there is no pressure to do more than I am comfortable with.
All the staff has been very friendly and approachable, as well as professional. Any suggestions I have made for improvements were listened to with an open mind, and most often implemented as well. This is an organization in which I feel I have (and continue to have) a real impact on the people I am trying to help. I really feel like I have meaningful involvement here
