Are you looking for a satisfying way to spend a few days each week? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of Westwood residents and families sheltered here? Hunger is a substantial need in Westwood. The Westwood Food Pantry welcomes volunteers age 55+ to play key roles in the pantry's operations.
1) Spend 2 days a week sorting food pantry donations, shelving and organizing food, and noting items needed to order from the Greater Boston Food Bank. Pantry is heated through winter, bright, and located next to the senior center. Other volunteers stop in to assist with shelving.
2) Organize volunteer delivery of custom food packages for families unable to travel to the food pantry site.
3) Investigate and potentially establish community garden/donation program for fresh produce.
4) Go to the Greater Boston Food Bank monthly with food pantry driver to assist loading items into van (up to 50 lbs).
5) Plan and conduct a community food security assessment and/or food pantry client survey.
6) Other projects that you imagine would be satisfying for you and helpful for the food pantry, please call to discuss ideas!
