Our program aims to provide essential resources for students who are precariously housed or financially challenged due to situations beyond their control. The support we will provide through the HIGH Program includes housing, textbooks, school supplies, clothing, transportation and child-care assistance. Together, we will help our fellow students not only meet essential daily needs, but reach their goal of graduating from Wayne State University.

About

The HIGH (Helping Individuals Go Higher) program aims to provide essential resources for students who are precariously housed or financially challenged due to situations beyond their control. The support we will provide through the HIGH Program includes housing, textbooks, school supplies, clothing, transportation and child-care assistance. Together, we will help our fellow students not only meet essential daily needs, but reach their goal of graduating from Wayne State University. As a volunteer, your dedication will not only help these individuals and families meet essential daily needs, but will help transform lives. We are asking our committed and enthusiastic volunteers to serve on steering committees and to assist with project activities. Our committees that you can choose from are: Communications and Building Partnerships: connect the HIGH Program to causes and organizations to the community, arranging and attending meetings, research groups on campus to arrange appointments and speak about the Program, and collect ideas and suggestions from individuals met. Letter Writing: write thank you letters, emails, newsletter, and prepare proposals for our events. Marketing Materials and Photography/Videography: capture Advisory Board Members, staff and donors during events, Record videos about WSU and HIGH Program Students and volunteers to upload them on our sites, attend most of HIGH Program events and meetings, and make and design flyers, posters, and newsletter. Donations: Contact by emailing, mailings, promotional campaigns and contacting donors, companies and other organizations who we partner with, from the list provided, and send donation requests to support various fundraising activities and events. Research: research for the number of homelessness population, potential grants, potential donation to expand our network, articles and events related to homelessness, find statistics related to homelessness, and create a list of possible opportunities for HIGH Program. Events/Fundraising: create and communicate thoughts, ideas, views, concepts and designs, develop, decorate, and facilitate events. Good verbal communication skills, enthusiasm and development/computer skills are important Office Work: come to the office at least once a week; volunteers with flexible schedule are preferred, package and mail materials, return HIGH Program inquiries via telephone and email, provide information, prepare documents and financial reports. Computer, organizational, administrative, customer service or accounting preferred. Technical Support: managing and assist in website and our social media sites, developing other social media sites, maintain contact with volunteers and people who are interested and part of our program to keep them abreast of the latest information.
