Mission Statement

The HIGH (Helping Individuals Go Higher) Program at Wayne State University works to ensure that no student has to abandon the dream of earning a degree at the university due solely to housing or financial challenges.

Description

The HIGH (Helping Individuals Go Higher) Program assists students in good academic standing and currently registered, who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless and who have exhaustedal all regular sources of financial or other aid. Students may receive direct assistance for housing, tuition, books and supplies, transportation, in addition to referral to other campus or community resources. The non-profit HIGH Program raises funds from WSU faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader Detroit and Southeast Michigan communities and aims to help 50 students a year.

Volunteers from the university and community provide time and expertise to develop and maintain ongoing programs on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Tumbler), planning, scripting, shooting and editing audiovisual materials for marketing, public relations and fundraisimg projects, building and managing electronic databases, helping with ongoing office tasks, and public awareness programs on campus and in Detroit.
