The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.

Wont you be a part of our Crafting For Critters volunteer group to help the Ark RAIN Wildlife Sanctuary? We have a very small group of volunteers that are making various goods for the sanctuary to sell in our online auctions to raise money to feed the 60 tigers, lion, kangaroo, other exotic and domestic animals that have a permanent home at the sanctuary.
A few years ago, a hateful arsonist burned down the sanctuary buildings and residence of the Co-founders who were the primary caretakers at the sanctuary. There was no insurance to replace or rebuild anything that was lost. The fire not only destroyed everything in its path but it took the lives of dozens of precious rescued animals, most of which were the animal ambassadors for the education programs that supported the sanctuary for nearly 20 years prior to this! The loss was not only emotional and financially devastating, it crippled the sancutary by putting a stop to all future funds coming in for operating the sanctuary. The Co-Founders and other sanctuary volunteers have had to try to find other ways to raise enough funds to continue. One of the ways is through online auctions and an eBay store. This is where you come in. :) If you quilt, sew, knit, crochet, paint, make jewelry, or make any other craft that you think might help, please contact us! We generally have 1 auction on our main Facebook page every 4 to 6 weeks with 100% of the proceeds going to the Ark RAIN Wildlife Sanctuary animal food fund. Any help that you can give with making handmade items for 1 or more auction is appreciated! You are not required to make any specific number of items, but the more we have, the more we can sell, which means more funds are raised to help the animals!
If you know other crafters that might want to help also, please let them know too! We have a group on Facebook called Crafting For Critters also where we all post ideas and photos for items to make and then show photos of any projects we have completed. Please join if you think that you might be able to help with ideas and suggestions. You can search for the group on Facebook or send us your email so that we can invite you to the group.
Thank you for your interest in helping the animals!
