ORGANIZATION: Outreach Uganda

Carol with girls in OU's Girls' Program

Outreach Uganda is looking for a reliable and organized person who can help us with general office work. This will include handling correspondence, filing, shipping web orders, running errands, and tagging and organizing our inventory of fair trade crafts including paper beads. We especially need someone who can regularly work some hours each week. The ideal match is someone who can commit to a consistent day and time frame every week for the 3 month period.

May to August is when we work on both sponsorship related tasks as well as fair trade craft tagging for retail sales. By processing sponsorship paperwork and assembling packets, we help make sure more Ugandan children get sponsors so they can go to school. There is a lot of paperwork needing assembled and copied. In addition, we have organization and labeling work relative to Ugandan fair trade crafts that we sell in the U.S. Working with data entry on a computer is a plus as you could help us with fulfilling craft orders through our web site.

Description

Our empowerment activities include:

Community empowerment programs include:
1. partnering with a northern Uganda community on its primary school which has over 500 students and 18 teachers and 9 support staff

3. assisting our Jinja women's group with a home building program to provide women a decent place to live where they can move out of the slums and stabilize their lives

Prior to working with OU, our women participants were normally living on less than $2 per day, and were supporting 8 to 10 children and orphans in their households. Many are widows whose husbands died in the war, or from AIDS.

We do not give handouts but work on building capacity and encouraging those we work with to help themselves.
