Join us!

United South End Settlements’ Workforce Readiness program seeks to open doors to previously unattainable economic opportunities for low-income residents of our community through basic education and professional development.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) Tutors are a crucial support to our program, providing our adult learners with one-on-one support on subjects such as basic math, reading, and writing as students are preparing for the High School Equivalency Test (HiSet). Some experience in teaching and/or tutoring with adults preferred (but not necessary)!

Scheduling

ABE students are available for tutoring in the afternoons Monday-Thursday (2:30-5:00pm) and during the day on Friday (9:00-5:00pm)

ABE classes meet Monday-Thursday 9:15am-2:15pm and Tuesday/Thursday 5:30pm-8:30pm. Opportunities to volunteer as an in-class tutor are also available.

Mission Statement

USES's mission is to harness the power of our diverse community to disrupt the cycle of poverty for children and their families. We believe that as families stabilize through access to increased resources, become more resilient, and build a diverse network of relationships, they and their children are more likely to develop the skills they need to succeed and break the cycle of poverty.

Description

We have created a bold new model designed to equip children and their families with economic mobility and social capital. Our programs align to our renewed mission that leads to profound, "whole family" impact. As families stabilize and take advantage of opportunities for advancement, they are connecting to an inclusive community that is investing social capital and uniting for the success of all.
