What: The Preschool and Elementary Read Aloud program is looking to fill volunteer positions in a number of our program sites within Title 1 elementary schools and Head Start schools. As a Read Aloud Program volunteer, you are tasked to read books aloud in the classroom. This program serves preschool -3rd grade students.
Goal: Create an intrinsic connection to reading
Skill Sets: We are looking for volunteers who enjoy working with elementary aged children and who have a knack for engaging students of that young age!
Volunteer Needs: We are in need of 10 volunteers to start as soon as possbile due to new openings! Also looking for substitute readers!
Time Commitment: As a Read Aloud volunteer, you will be tasked to attend a 1-hour training (dates below); 1-hour kick-off meeting with the teacher, site manager and fellow volunteers; and attend a 0.5/1 hour session each month/week (dependent on availibility).
Training: (only need to attend one)
- Wednesday, August 24th 10-11am
- Wednesday, September 14th 1-2pm
- Tuesday, September 27th 10-11am
Trainings are hosted at the Word Alive office in Pacific Beach. But the volunteer needs are at elementary schools in Escondido, Bario Logan, downtown and Normal Heights.
