Interested in volunteering alongside a group of coworkers? 826 Valencia has many opportunities to do so! With so many programs reaching thousands of students each year, we could always use an extra hand-or in this case many extra hands. If your group is looking for a unique and fun volunteering opportunity, take a look at our various program descriptions below.
*Please note that the time frames listed below include a mandatory one-hour orientation prior to working with our students.
Field Trips | Monday-Thursday | 9:00 AM -12:30 PM | At 826 Valencia's Writer's Lab
On weekday mornings we open up our Writer’s Lab to students for a two-hour writing extravaganza where they are challenged to collectively write an original story in two hours. Volunteer roles include: typist, in-house editor, illustrator, and crucial support roles that help guide students as they learn the elements of storytelling. If you have a creative and versatile group, this could be a great fit.
After-School Tutoring | Sunday 2:30pm - 4:30pm |Monday - Thursday 2:30pm - 5:30pm | At 826 Valencia's Writer's Lab
After-School Tutoring is a homework-help program for elementary and middle school students. Volunteers will get to flex their math and science skills, as well as their writing muscles. Typically, this is good fit for groups who wish to volunteer on a consistent basis, though we welcome anyone who is interested in supporting our work in this capacity.
Buena Vista Horace Mann | Monday-Wednesday 3:00pm - 6:30pm, Thursday 2:30pm-6:00pm | Tutoring takes place at 3351 23rd Street in San Francisco, CA
This opportunity is ideal for groups who enjoy writing and want to help bilingual 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to build essential writing skills. During the sessions volunteers will be paired with students to work on writing prompts. Return visits are highly encouraged.
