We are the Community Action Network (CAN) program run through LifeWorks, the youth mentoring and development program of the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
Community Action Network (CAN) is a volunteer based program seeking people ages 18-24 who are passionate about working with LGBTQ youth. CAN collaborates with middle and high school students and advisors throughout Los Angeles to build GSA’s/LGBTQ groups. Trainings incorporate storytelling, LGBT competency, and social change actions that inspire students to become leaders.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Attend and co-facilitate weekly/monthly CAN trainings;
Participate in weekly CAN meetings;
Help maintain a safe space for youth participants;
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience: TRAINING, EDUCATION AND/OR LICENSURE:
Must be between the ages of 18-24;
Knowledgeable and sensitive to the issues affecting LGBTQ youth;
Have the desire to work with LGBTQ youth;
Ability to engage youth and co-facilitate CAN trainings;
Responsible, respectful and dependable;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientation and gender identities in a multicultural setting;
Able to attend bi-weekly meetings, Thursday's 6pm-8pm, minimum of 3 a quarter required.
Training will be provided on site.
