We are looking for an enthusiastic musician to run our Baby Boomer Jam Band club! A program where people over the age of 60 can get reacquainted with playing musical instruments and singing music from the 60's, 70's, and more depending on the interests of the leader and participants.
If you have a love of music and the ability to teach others with varying levels of ability and would like to lead the baby boomer jam band club please contact me! asimmons@hanac.org
The center can provide rehearsal space, access to a new keyboard, my husbands working but least favorite guitar as well as a performance venue. I will provide the instructor help with recruitment within our senior center community of over 1000 as well as through online advertising.
The center is open from 9-4 Monday -Saturday.
HANAC is a not for profit social service organization and the Harmony JVL Innovative Senior Center is a day center for adults over the age of 60 that is funded through a contract with the NYC Department for the Aging. Membership in the center is free for everyone over the age of 60. Lunch for members over 60 is $1.50 and most programs and activities (including this one!) are free.
We provide free classes in exercise, art, nutrition, meditation, writing, computers, and through our Licensed Social Worker, social work and trauma care groups.
We are an equal opportunity program provider that does not discriminate against people based on race, sex, income, citizenship or other factors.
Commitment: We ask all volunteers to provide us with at least one month of service so we can advertise the class in our grapevine newsletter and on the website. We also ask for as much notice as possible when you are leaving so we can try and find a replacement. We totally understand that many people volunteer during job vacancies and school breaks and just as for as much communication as possible so the volunteer experience can be great for everyone.
The position does not pay and is entirely voluntary. We will provide a teaching reference and comply with any internship or community service program requirements. If the program is held at or around lunchtime, we will provide a complimentary lunch for the volunteer leading the group.
If the program is a success we can apply to expand it in the 2021 funding cycle, but future funding is never not guaranteed.
