Mission Statement

HANAC Harmony JVL Innovative Senior Center

HANAC Harmony JVL Innovative Senior Center is a home away from home to seniors over the age of 60 in the Astoria Queens community. Our goal is to assist the city's growing population of elders in continuing to be healthy, active members of their communities.

Our nutritious lunch program serves hundreds of older adults each week, and we have expanded our social services and cultural programs to include art and technology eduction, exercise classes, and a Sunday Brunch Performance series that delivers exciting music and arts programming. We also provide guided excursions to cultural points of interest throughout the city.

Membership is free for any person over the age of 60, and our lunch is available for a $1.50 voluntary contribution.

We now offer extended hours:
Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm - including lunch
Saturday, 10:00am - 1:00pm - including brunch

We invite you to visit this innovative senior center or call our office to inquire about our many programs and services.

HANAC’s Senior Centers are vibrant community-centered organizations that give an opportunity for those aged 60 and above to gather in a congenial environment to participate in activities that enhance their ability to remain in their homes and be active and involved in their communities.

These year-round programs operate seven days a week from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with scheduled programming that offer seniors active informal and planned social activities; the opportunity to develop new friendships, interests, hobbies, and educational opportunities; referrals for social services; and a daily luncheon program.

Seniors are encouraged to play an active role in program planning and in the daily operation of the centers. The Advisory Committee, at each Center, is comprised of senior citizens and meets regularly to discuss programmatic issues and to formulate new goals for the program. A strong emphasis is placed on services to the frail elderly.

Our senior centers serve approximately 100,000 meals annually through our breakfast and luncheon programs. We receive funding for our senior center programs from the New York City Department for the Aging.
