Help enrich the lives of older adults in our community. You will play an invaluable role in ensuring seniors receive a nutritious and affordable meal, as well as enjoy opportunities to socialize and get connected to activities and services that promote healthy aging.

La Comida invites you to join our team of friendly and caring volunteers, and values your time and talents. A variety of fun and rewarding volunteer roles are available:

  • Welcome seniors (registration/ client check in, food distribution outdoors and/or indoors-as soon we will resume indoor dining as a daily meal time option)
  • Currently, Serve lunch to guests COVID safe, grab and go meals
  • Serve as a translator - Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, Spanish, etc
  • COVID Protective gear provided. Glove and masks
  • All clients and volunteers must wear mask at pick up time.
  • Please note that we do require all of our volunteers and staff to be currently COVID vaccinated.

Mission Statement

La Comida is dedicated to enriching the lives of older adults by providing appetizing, nutritious, and affordable meals served in a cheerful and attractive setting. La Comida diners also enjoy the opportunity to socialize and connect to activities and resources that promote healthy aging.


La Comida is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of adults over 60 by providing 3 key benefits:

  • Nutritious and affordable meals
  • Opportunities to socialize and be part of a community
  • Connections to activities and services offered by non-profit partners.
La Comida serves a diverse population of seniors from all walks of life.

Our main volunteer programs are Monday-Friday 9:30am-12:45 p.m. Volunteers play an integral and essential role in welcoming and serving seniors. Volunteers work in small teams along with other volunteers and dedicated staff.

Lunch is served Monday-Friday 11:15 am - 12:15 pm at a main dining site in downtown Palo Alto (located at the Avenidas Center) and two satellite locations in Palo Alto.

All seniors are welcomed regardless of inability or failure to pay. A $3 voluntary contribution is welcomed from adults 60 and over; $8 for their guests under 60. La Comida receives partial funding from the City of Palo Alto, Santa Clara County, State of California and federal government.

La Comida has been serving seniors in the community since 1972.

La Comida values volunteers' talents and energy, and strives to offer a rewarding and enjoyable volunteer experience.
