ORGANIZATION: SouthernCare

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

SouthernCare is a company that specializes in providing Palliative Care to patients that have a terminal diagnosis. We are active members of the We Honor Vets organization and want to be more active in taking care of our Veterans. Without the service that each Veteran has provided for our country, we would not be where we are today. Many of our patients are Veterans. We are currently taking care of Veterans that live in their own home, in nursing homes, and even at the Indiana Veterans Home located in Lafayette, IN.

SouthernCare is looking for Veterans from each branch of the military to volunteer with SouthernCare. Vets, your brothers need you! Our work throughout the years and our experience with the We Honor Vets program is showing the need for Veteran volunteers. We need Veterans that can relate to what our Veteran patients have gone through...all that they have sacrificed. Volunteers get to be a friend to our Veteran patients when they need one the most. Every volunteer brings their own unique style to our program. Volunteers do not perform any hands on care and are never put in any situations that make them feel uncomfortable. Volunteers can do anything from making friendly visits, reading a book to the patient, listening to stories that the patient has to tell, helping with puzzles, and recording service stories.

SouthernCare takes care of patient in Tippecanoe County and the 12 surrounding counties. Volunteers can choose where they want to volunteer and are not required to do large amounts of traveling.

If you are interested in volunteering with SouthernCare, contact the office to get an application. There is a required orientation and training process. During the orientation, the potential volunteer will be trained on SouthernCare’s beliefs and how to interact with patients. Ongoing training is provided for all volunteers.

Please contact Samantha Tatman with any questions concerning our Veteran volunteer opportunities.
