Our organization works to provide grants to emancipating foster youth seeking to attain higher education. We are looking for a compassionate person that is interested in serving as a board member.
The board member position involves becoming sitting on one of our committees as well as serving as an executive board member. As treasurer, you will lead the boards' efforts in our yearly budget plan, monthly financial reconciliation, and general fiduciary responsibilities.
This position takes about 10 hours per month. We really need a reliable Treasurer to serve on our board! Must be available once per month in the evening for board meetings. Some work outside of this time will be needed to meet Treasurer goals and responsibilities.
Please note: We raise money to give youth grants. We are mainly a fundraising board of directors. While we do have occasional interaction with youth (as in when we interview youth for our grant cycles), the majority of board business is event planning, fundraising, grant-writing and board maintenance.
Please note: We do not have a physical office, so the majority of our week is done virtually. Given the nature of our board and how things are shifted within the last 2 years, we currently meet remotely. We are in the process of "board maintenance" and "board re-building", so we are accepting applications from individuals with previous Board of Directors experience only.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Foster Youth Rising (FYR) is to empower current and former foster youth to succeed in living independently after they emancipate from the foster care system. Our primary purpose is to provide scholarships for educational and vocational training and other grants for safe and stable housing as well as basic living needs.
Description
Foster Youth Rising (FYR) is a nonprofit organization, working in partnership with the San Francisco Independent Living Skills Program to make sure that young people leaving the foster care system have the support they need to succeed in living independently.
FYR helps fill the gaps in funding for emancipating foster youth by providing educational scholarships, housing and basic needs grants, college field trips and other assistance to youth (ages 16-24) who are pursuing self-sufficiency.
