The Robot Block Party
Meet large and small robots at the Robot Block Party.

We are looking for help teaching people to solder at the Robot Block Party, a partnership between Rhode Island School of the Future and the Humanity Centered Robotics Initiative at Brown University. This celebration of National Robotics Week features more than 40 exhibitors, robot demonstrations, and hands-on fun for all ages. Robots help explore the ocean, space and land, and Rhode Islanders help them!

Winner of a "BEST OF RHODE ISLAND" award in 2015, the Robot Block Party needs volunteers to join the planning committee. Interested in robotics and have skills in video production, social media, or event management? We'd love to hear from you.

Volunteers help during a shift that runs from 10:30 am - 1:30 pm, or 1:00 pm to 4 pm. Training, lunch and a tshirt are provided for each volunteer.

Please help us teach Rhode Islanders to solder!

Mission Statement

Rhode Island Students of the Future spreads enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering and math through robotics. We encourage young people from all backgrounds to participate in real-world inquiry-based science, technology, engineering and math activities that develop leadership, critical thinking, communication and teamwork. We manage FIRST LEGO League and Jr. FIRST LEGO League in Rhode Island as well as the Robot Block Party, an expo that celebrates robotics, mechanical design and computer programming in industry, universities, community organizations and K-12 schools. These programs, which use robotics to engage 4-14 year olds in science and technology, serve over 800 students annually.

Description

Rhode Island School of the Future (RISF) is a volunteer-driven non-profit organization that engages Rhode Island children in science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM). RISF has a long history of supporting STEAM outreach for children and professional development for teachers, coaches and mentors. We produce the Robot Block Party, a STEAM expo, and were instrumental in bringing FIRST LEGO League (FLL), and its sister program, Jr. FLL, to Rhode Island in 2001 and 2005, respectively. We manage both FIRST programs under a contract with US FIRST in New Hampshire.
