Imagine relying on a co-worker to read the recipes you cook for school lunches, and then that person retires. Your boss finds out you can't read, and your job is on the line. This is the story for Merrill, one of the Learners on our Adult Literacy Program Waiting List.
Volunteers for the Monterey County Free Libraries Literacy Program provide one-to-one tutoring to help learners read, write, speak and understand English better. Our learner-centered program helps people reach their goals, including things like getting a better job, helping their children with homework, or helping family members take the right medicine at the right time.
Volunteer two hours per week for at least six months. New volunteers may join the program at any point during the year by registering for our New Tutor Training. Plan to attend both sessions. For more information or to register for training, call 831-883-7597, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
New Tutor Training Dates:
Part I: Tuesday, January 24, 600-830 pm at Marina Branch Community Room.
Part II: Thursday, January 26, 600-830 pm at Seaside Branch Homework Center.
Even if we can't match someone's schedule with Merrill right away, we'll still be able to get some of the 101 people on the Ready-To-Match list on their way to realizing their dreams.
