The Monterey County Free Libraries is a network of information centers serving the diverse communities of Monterey County by offering opportunities for all to succeed in school, work and their personal lives.
Public libraries in California seek to engage the talents, skills and commitment of volunteers to serve the communities' information and literacy needs. Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to library programs, operations, fundraising events and other community engagement functions. Skilled volunteers have opportunities to lead projects, work with teams of staff and volunteers, learn new skills, and have fun.
I worked with the Marina Public Library for one year. I hope to be a future librarian. I wanted to gain experience in my field of study. I began as a volunteer tutor for a one on one session with a student who is learning English. Halfway through the year I began working with Sarah Hoeffel for the conversation class. Sarah and I worked together to create lesson plans as well as co-teach the class. I truly enjoyed my tutoring experience as well as co-teaching the conversation class. I would recommend this organization to anyone who is interested in studying librarianship like myself or anyone who is pursuing a career in teaching or literacy training. I truly enjoyed working with Sarah. She is very kind and professional. Along the way, when my tutoring ended, I contacted Be Astengo for help. She is also very kind and professional. Monterey County Free Libraries is a wonderful organization. I would highly recommend volunteering for this organization as well as the Marina Public Library.
