Whether it is a dog, a cat or even a rabbit, companion animals have a special way of showing unconditional love and affection that can lift the spirit no matter the circumstances - especially for those in hospice.
One of our goals is to honor our patients final wishes - often this request involves the companionship of his or her favorite animal. We would like to be able to meet those requests. These visits bring back happy memories of earlier days and can be especially meaningful to those who are no longer able to care for their own beloved pet.
The Allay Volunteer Program is looking for *animal-assisted therapy (pet therapy) teams to visit with our hospice patients. Volunteers must have already completed training & assessment through a recognized Animal-Assisted Therapy Program.
Friendly dogs, cats, rabbits - we welcome them all!
The amount of time you give is flexible and scheduled around your availability. We take into account your location to assign patient visits that are within or near your own community.
*While many animals provide love and companionship in the home, not all animals have the temperament suited for this type of service. At this time we require that all animal-assisted therapy teams have already been certified to provide this service.
