Storytime at Park Ridge

Reach Out and Read is a national pediatric-based literacy program that takes place inside a clinic. Pediatric staff at health clinics promote early childhood literacy by prescribing books to children up to 5 years of age and their families during wellness checkups. After every visit, each child leaves with a free book to read and enjoy with his or her parents.

We are looking for volunteers to complement the pediatricians' prescriptions by reading to children in the waiting rooms of our clinics. As a volunteer, you would serve as reading models for families and children to promote early childhood literacy at home. There are also opportunities to educate parents and refer them to adult literacy classes.

Volunteers have the choice at reading at six different Lutheran clinics throughout Brooklyn NY; with locations in Sunset Park, Park Slope and East Flatbush.
