The Weekley YMCA has a great opportunity for you to pass on your knowledge of food and cooking to underprivileged children in the surrounding community. We offer a free after-school program to 20 to 30 youth participants in the Sharpstown area of Houston, which provides learning enrichment programs from 4:00pm-6:30pm Monday-Friday. The Y's Cooking class is one of many tools we use to teach children that learning is ongoing and not limited to the classroom. Our goal is to provide these children with the opportunity to learn from someone with the experience and knowledge of cooking and would like to extend that opportunity to you, as a potential volunteer to work with inspiring young children. Classes are two times a week at 90 minutes per session. We usually start cooking class at 5:00pm. Days are flexible and would work around your schedule if need be. We would create the curriculum and provide all the materials needed for the class. You will also be supported by experienced child care staff for any issues that may present itself. We look forward in hearing from you and questions you may have. Thank you.

Description

The Y...for social responsibility

We know that when we work as one, we move people and communities forward. That's why we are committed to providing support to our neighbors and opportunities for kids, adults and families to give, join in or advocate in the name of stronger communities.

Social Services...

Build something good today

To bring about meaningful change, individuals need ongoing encouragement and tools. We're here day-in and day-out to provide the resources our communities need to address the most pressing social issues: child welfare, education, employment, housing and substance abuse. We work to make sure every child, family and community has what they need to achieve their best.
