In the time it takes you to read this description, 2 people will have been sexually assaulted and 4 women will have been beaten by their partners.
How can you make a difference?
We are looking for volunteers to respond to any ER hospital call of someone that comes to Aiken Regional Medical Center for domestic violence or sexual assault. Whether you have an hour once a month or eight hours a week, the Cumbee Center could use and would appreciate your time and talents.
When responding to hospital calls, Victim Advocate volunteers help to support the survivors during their exams, playing a key role in emotional recovery after a traumatic event. During the hospital visits, Victim Advocates also serve an important role of introducing the Cumbee Center to the victim, explaining to them the variety of free ways that the organization can assist them in their healing process.
Victim Advocates complete a free 25 hour volunteer training program provided by the Cumbee Center. Using a blend of online courses, hands-on classroom activities and guest speakers, the training offers our volunteers an opportunity to further develop their empathetic listening skills, as well as initial crisis intervention abilities.
