Volunteer Assisted Transportation

Did you know 1 in 5 seniors (age 65+) no longer drive? This complicates a wide range of needs in life, from getting groceries home to making it to doctor appointments and running other necessary errands.

Knoxville's CAC engages volunteers who will drive to support seniors. Help a senior get the support they need to live confidently and safely in their own home!

Volunteer Assisted Transportation (VAT)
VAT drivers take seniors to appointments and errands, like doctor visits and grocery shopping. Volunteers receive free training and get to use agency owned vehicles - all gas, vehicle, and insurance costs are covered! Scheduling is flexible. VAT staff match volunteers with seniors who need an upcoming trip. Make a senior's day! Drivers for VAT do need to be age 21 years of age.

Mobile Meals
Mobile Meals delivers food to seniors every weekday from 10am to 1pm. These meals for homebound seniors make all the difference. Routes generally take 3 hours, and volunteers use their own vehicle. Serve as frequently as you like. Help provide nutritional security to local seniors. Drivers can be as young as 16.

Meal Connect
Quarterly, CAC has food box distributions to seniors in our Grandparents as Parents program. Drivers take boxes to those who can no longer drive to our pick-up location. This usually happens on a Thursday morning, let us know if you'd prefer this service activity to one of the regular activities above!
