Knoxville-Knox County CAC is in need of drivers to help with several programs! COVID has made it increasingly difficult for isolated seniors to safely get out and achieve tasks without help . Consider helping one of these programs to support seniors in our area! Food Pantry Deliveries Grandparents As Parents delivers food pantry boxes to seniors who are raising their grandkids, to provide additional nutritional support to these families. Would you be willing to drive a 2-3 hour route to help? Deliveries occur every Wednesday morning, and once a month on Thursday mornings. Help a Senior Get to Appointments Volunteer Assisted Transportation (VAT) needs drivers to help local seniors get to necessary appointments and errands, like doctor visits and grocery shopping. Volunteers receive free training and get to use agency owned vehicles; gas costs are also covered. Scheduling is flexible, VAT staff will help match volunteers with seniors who need an upcoming trip so you can make a senior's day! Drivers for VAT do need to be age 21 years of age. Mobile Meals Our local Mobile Meals program needs drivers every weekday from 10am to 1pm to deliver meals to homebound seniors. Routes generally take 3 hours, and volunteers use their own vehicle. Staff can help connect volunteers with routes that are near their home and can provide directions and support to volunteers while they are on the road. You can also serve as frequently as often, whether weekly, biweekly, or even monthly. Join this critical team in providing nutritional support to local seniors. Drivers can be as young as 16, and children are welcome to accompany drivers, but all minors should have an adult along to assist.

Senior Care Calls matches local seniors with lonely seniors, to make one phone call a week to check in on them and provide some company over the phone. This helps alleviate the loneliness, depression, and isolation that can occur for seniors who are homebound, live in rural areas, or simply lacking family or traditional social networks in their area. We are looking for: Volunteers who are age 55+ Who will commit to calling weekly; Spending 15-60 minutes chatting with their senior match And who will continue to call their match for a six-month commitment Volunteers receive a simple training and then commit to make a call every week to their senior match. They call the same senior weekly and we ask for a six-month commitment to your senior. Many matches last for years, become life long phone friends - but at least a six month commitment helps our seniors from feeling more abandoned rather than less. Calls last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, and are geared to provide companionship and friendship. Knoxville-Knox County CAC staff are available to support the senior and solve other needs that might arise in the conversation, and a simple feedback tool is provided through our Connection Line. Best of all, the Connection Line allows you to call them any time that suits your schedule while keeping your personal information secure. Join Senior Care Calls today!
