Keep Newton Beautiful

Help Keep Newton Beautiful with their annual cleanup of Newton County waterways.

To volunteer for the RIVERS ALIVE! 2023 cleanup:

  • Register by September 16. Go to www.keepnewtonbeautiful.org, print out and complete registration and release forms, and send to Keep Newton Beautiful. (For more information on how to fill out and submit forms, please visit keepnewtonbeautiful.org.)

Email: newtonclean@co.newton.ga.us or lriley@co.newton.ga.us

  • Meet at Longhorn Steakhouse of Covington at 9:00 a.m. to get
FREE breakfast, t-shirts, & cleanup supplies-while supplies last!
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
  • Split into teams, travel to cleanup locations, and clean.

Local Rivers Alive sponsors: City of Covington, Georgia Wildlife Federation, Keep Newton Beautiful, Newton County Board of Commissioners, Newton County Water Resources, Newton County Water & Sewerage Authority

Groups will travel to cleanup sites along the Alcovy, South, and Yellow Rivers and their tributaries and also along area lakes to remove litter and larger trash items.
PLEASE NOTE: Keep Newton Beautiful does not provide transportation from Longhorn to cleanup sites. Each participant is responsible for his/her own transportation.

People interested in participating should complete a registration packet. Group organizers/leaders should fill out one registration form for their group. For example, the Eastside High School Eco Eagles would be considered a group. All of the Eco Eagles members would work together at the same cleanup site. The Eco Eagles leader should fill out a registration form and include t-shirt sizes for all the members who will participate together in the event. This registration form should be emailed to newtonclean@co.newton.ga.us by September 22.This allows time for pre-packing and labeling t-shirts and cleanup supplies for each group.

Each individual event participant will need to fill out two forms: a waiver form and a safety rules form. For example, each Eco Eagles member who wants to participate would fill out both of these forms. These forms can be turned in at Longhorn on September 30.

If group leaders prefer to get their supplies from the Keep Newton Beautiful office and meet their group members at cleanup sites, appointments will be available for early pickup of supplies. Each leader can send a group member to Longhorn on September 30 to pick up breakfast and bring it to the cleanup site for everyone in his/her group.

Mission Statement

Hands On Newton's Vision : Every Newton County citizen is able to participate in meaningful volunteer service according to each one’s talents and interests to build a better community. Hands On Newton's Mission : Hands On Newton engages and empowers people of all ages in volunteer service through partnerships with local organizations and visionaries.

Description

Hands On Newton (HON) was established in 2007 as a program of the Newton County Family Connection (NCFC) to foster volunteer service and civic engagement that address issues resulting from Newton County’s sudden and rapid population growth. Our choice to use the Hands On model ensures effective volunteer management.

HON has diversified and expanded Newton County’s volunteer workforce through one-time and ongoing service projects and service to other nonprofits. Volunteers participate individually, with their families, or with a group; HON actively collaborates with other community organizations and for-profits to create large-scale or long-term projects such as community gardens.
