Help parents of children birth to age four prepare their young children to be successful learners when they are ready to start school. Lead a short workshop for parents and their children and be available with parenting resources on Mondays from 10:30 am to noon. TRAINING PROVIDED.
Strong, capable parents understand that they are their child's first teacher and use their resources and environment for early instructions that leads to brain development and language necessary for their children to learn to read. Not every parent has grown up with a parenting role model and can use guidance on how to engage with their young children. Ready, Set, School! Club provides this instruction in a fun, non-threatening way.
Workshop includes parents and their young children singing, using simple instruments, hearing a story read aloud, and making a simple learning activity. Additional education is through informal sharing of online parenting resources and having conversations about how parents can support their child's growth and development.
The perfect workshop leader is friendly, open, genuine, comfortable leading small groups in activities, has awareness of early childhood development patterns and parent needs, and relates well to people of many different backgrounds.

Description
Hands On Newton (HON) was established in 2007 as a program of the Newton County Family Connection (NCFC) to foster volunteer service and civic engagement that address issues resulting from Newton County’s sudden and rapid population growth. Our choice to use the Hands On model ensures effective volunteer management.
HON has diversified and expanded Newton County’s volunteer workforce through one-time and ongoing service projects and service to other nonprofits. Volunteers participate individually, with their families, or with a group; HON actively collaborates with other community organizations and for-profits to create large-scale or long-term projects such as community gardens.
