Imagine a world without words...no Goodnight Moon to your children or grandchildren; the inability to fill out a job application. Barriers to literacy can be removed with informed, caring volunteer tutors.
Blue Ridge Literacy Council (BRLC) recruits and trains adult volunteer tutors to provide one-on-one or small group instruction to youth and adult students focusing on basic reading, writing, English as a Second (ESL) Language, and Citizenship. Tutors are supported by agency staff, trained by our program director, and receive easy-to-use teachers' manuals and techniques designed to help adult learners achieve their goals.
Tutors and students meet twice a week for 1.5 hours. Instruction is held at a mutually convenient time and place (BRLC office, library, etc.) Potential tutors must be at least 18 years old, have an interest in helping adults learn, and be comfortable speaking, reading, and writing English.
Please call us at (828) 696 - 3811 or email anicholson@litcouncil.org for more info/next steps. Please visit our website: www.litcouncil.org.
Changing the world - one tutor, one student, one lesson plan at a time!
