Volunteering as an adult literacy tutor with the Blue Ridge Literacy Council really shows you how much impact you can have on the life of an adult struggling with speaking and writing English. Even though I didn't have much experience teaching, I was expertly prepared by a team of compassionate and patient fellow tutors. My student is trying to get American citizenship, but others need help passing the GED, being able to help their children with homework, or learning to read the Bible. This small group of dedicated professionals and network of volunteers is making a huge difference in the lives of literacy-challenged adults in Henderson County.
