OUCARES

Oakland University Joanne and Ted Lindsay Foundation Autism Outreach (OUCARES) needs enthusiastic and reliable volunteers like YOU! Our programs are developed to help improve the quality of life for those impacted by autism. OUCARES volunteers are needed for year-round programs in art, social skills, basketball, soccer, golf, martial arts, computer programs, employable skills training, yoga, special events and so much more!

Our programs take place on OU’s campus and several off campus locations in Rochester Hills, Sterling Heights, and Farmington Hills. If you are ready to gain more then you give, are willing to provide positive encouragement, are dependable and have patience, then we will train you how to volunteer with individuals with Autism. Please contact us for more information at www.oakland.edu/oucares, email oucares@oakland.edu, or call (248) 370-2424. Thank you!

Volunteers must attend a 1-hour training & complete a background check prior to volunteering with any OUCARES event or program.

Mission Statement

The goal of OUCARES is to promote understanding and awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through education, research and support and to improve quality of life for people impacted by ASD.

Description

OUCARES integrates academic course work, knowledge and research with hands-on work in the community to prepare professionals to be leaders in the autism community. Through these academic and service programs, Oakland University also provides supportive individual and family programs. OUCARES, housed in the School of Education and Human Services, encourages the exchange of ideas relating to the education and support of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as provides services and support needed to improve daily living.

We serve educators, caregivers and professionals who serve people with ASD, such as dentists, law enforcement officials and hair stylists. Finally, we serve all members of families impacted by ASD including the individual with ASD, parents, siblings, grandparents and extended family members.
