Mission Statement

The goal of OUCARES is to promote understanding and awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through education, research and support and to improve quality of life for people impacted by ASD.

Description

OUCARES integrates academic course work, knowledge and research with hands-on work in the community to prepare professionals to be leaders in the autism community. Through these academic and service programs, Oakland University also provides supportive individual and family programs. OUCARES, housed in the School of Education and Human Services, encourages the exchange of ideas relating to the education and support of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as provides services and support needed to improve daily living.

We serve educators, caregivers and professionals who serve people with ASD, such as dentists, law enforcement officials and hair stylists. Likewise, we serve the community by providing information, awareness and inclusion opportunities. Finally, we serve all members of families impacted by ASD including the individual with ASD, parents, siblings, grandparents and extended family members.
