OPTUM Palliative and Hospice Care has a new volunteer opportunity called Veteran to Veteran Program. This program is a network of support offered to our hospice patients who are Veterans and would appreciate a visit from another Veteran who could potentially relate to our patient Veteran and potentially understand what our patient has experienced in their past. Many Veterans and their families find that the opportunity to share their military histories also helps them find closure. Through OPTUM Hospice we offer our Vets a variety of options and events. You could listen to the Veteran tell their Life Story. "Honoring Our Veterans" ceremony - Provides a certificate of appreciation, a flag pin for a pinning ceremony and we have a ceremonial coin you can give them that they will cherish as well. Now if the Veteran has old photos he/she needs preserved, you may assist by preserving photos in albums or on computer. A visit by a uniformed military volunteer has deep meaning and significance to a Veteran. If you are a Veteran wanting to volunteer some time, you could make occasional visits to a Vet on Hospice. This may be the volunteer opportunity you have been looking for. Our patients live in their own home, Skilled Nursing Facility, Assisted Living Facility or Board & Care, where ever they call home, we go to them. Looking forward to hearing from you.
