Do you like to talk to people over text message?? Crisis Connection is looking for volunteers and interns for the new TxT4Life counseling program. This program is geared towards teens in grades 7 th through 12 th located primarily in the northeastern region of Minnesota. Text Counselors have a unique opportunity to talk with teens in a way that is most comfortable for them.
Crisis Connection counselors are trained volunteers who are partnered with skilled professionals. They are trained to respond to callers or texters in nonjudgmental and positive ways, and are supported by the professional staff available at all times. Our goal is to provide callers and texters with emotional support, to de-escalate any crises, and locate additional helpful resources.
Crisis counselors must complete one volunteer/intern training session prior to serving on our hotline. Trainings are offered monthly, at no charge to volunteers and interns. Each training session spans a four-week period and convenes on both Monday and Thursday evenings from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. The last class of each session will last until 10:00pm.
We ask that volunteers/interns complete ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) within 2 months of service. ASIST certification is a $225 value and provided to our volunteers and interns at no charge. Between 12 to 15 hours of Continuing Education Units are provide for completing ASIST
