Position Description: Support Job Training instructors by providing virtual classroom support. Assist with class preparation and class materials, starting/ending class in a timely manner, helping with activities, working with students who need extra guidance with coursework, extra guidance with technology, and providing examples to students as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Preparatory work before/after class: preparing PowerPoint presentations and presentations using other platforms, helping students get into the virtual classroom, and follow up with students about classroom activities
  • Provide guidance and support to students working in small groups
  • Participate in classroom activities and assist individual students during lessons and exercises
  • Administrative tasks as needed
  • Other activities as needed


Reports to:
Center Manager or Volunteer Supervisor


Role Requirements & Abilities:

  • Interest in working in a virtual classroom setting with adult learners; previous experience teaching or tutoring valued but not required
    • Interest in learning how to use digital platforms in distance learning, and ability to communicate solely through these digital tools (like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom, Google Voice, Google Docs, and more)
  • Volunteers must have their own computer/tablet and access to a reliable WiFi connection
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds, or an interest in learning how to apply cultural competency in this role
  • Ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse communities
  • A solid understanding of, or interest in learning about, cultural humility and cultural responsiveness
  • Reliable, punctual and consistent
  • Patient, understanding, and caring
  • Strong listening skills

Time Commitment: Schedules vary by center. Regular business hours during weekdays. Minimum 10- week commitment.
