Did you know that street trees in the area surrounding the Gowanus Canal provide environmental services equal to $360,000 every year? These services include energy savings, carbon dioxide capture, air quality improvements, storm water capture, and street beautification.
Join us in stewarding street trees on 9th St between 2nd and 3rd Ave with members of the Gowanus Tree Network! We will be aerating soil, mulching, and planting.
Please wear close-toed shoes, clothing you don't mind getting dirty, and bring a hat/sunscreen as needed. All tools, gloves, and additional materials will be provided as well as snacks and water. Bring a water bottle if you have one. Volunteers under the age of 18 must bring a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

Description
Gowanus Canal Conservancy is dedicated to facilitating the development of a resilient, vibrant, open space network centered on the Gowanus Canal through activating and empowering community stewardship of the Gowanus Watershed. Since 2006, we have served as the environmental steward for the neighborhood through leading grassroots volunteer projects; educating students on environmental issues; and working with agencies, elected officials, and the community to advocate for, build, and maintain innovative green infrastructure around the Gowanus Canal.
