House Manager Volunteers sees to it that our patrons have a safe and pleasant experience when they visit the Theatre, make sure everyone is seated, give the go-ahead to the Stage Manager Volunteer to start the show, let the audience know when intermission is over and the second act is about to start, handle any emergencies that may arise in the front-of-house, make sure everyone is out of the building after the show, keep an eye out for safety, and lock up the front-of-house after everyone has gone home? Just as the Stage Manager Volunteer is in charge of the backstage realm, the House Manager Volunteer is the ringmaster of the front-of-house world and the liaison between either side of the curtain. If you enjoy interacting with people and making sure things run smoothly, then house-managing is for you! Plus, you earn complimentary tickets from volunteering as a House Manager Volunteer. What is front-of-house? This is a term for all the areas that a patron sees when they come to a show and it includes all areas from the front of the stage to the parking lot. The House Manager Volunteer is part of our front-of-house Volunteers. The House Manager Volunteer is responsible for the care, comfort and safety of the audience and the smooth operation of all activities and systems in the public areas for each performance. These areas include the auditorium, the lobby, public restrooms, box office, the front of the building and the patron parking lot. As a House Manager Volunteer you will be supervising our other front-of-house Volunteers (Usher Volunteers, Gift Box Volunteers, Raffle Volunteers and Box Office Volunteers). The House Manager Volunteer is the "go-to" person for issues that may come up concerning the public areas. House Manager Volunteers report directly to our Director of Guest Services & Operations who will fully train you on all duties. Duties include but are not limited to: Opening and closing of the lobby. Checking in all front-of-house Volunteers and ensures they are brought up to speed on performance details. Making sure things happen on time before, during and after the performance (opening lobby & auditorium, communicating with the Stage Manager Volunteer in time to start the show). Filling out House Manager Volunteer Report. Training and assisting front-of-house Volunteers. Attend to emergencies that may arise. INTERESTED? If you are interested in volunteering as a House Manager, please respond with your phone number and our Director of Guest Services & Operations will contact you. You will be fully trained and will shadow veteran house managers until you and our Director of Guest Services & Operations are comfortable with you being on your own. We are seeking experienced individuals who can sew, stich, tailor, mend, hem, alter clothing and apparel and general costume shop volunteers to organize, clean and restock our costumes and costume shop. Our costume shop volunteers are essential to the vision of our costume designer as they help bring costume designs from concept to stage. Volunteers can set their own hours within costume shop hours. Once set, each week volunteers are scheduled to come in and assist with costumes. So, if you are available once a week on a certain day, that can be your schedule each week. We would love to have you for the entire day, but we ask for a minimum of 4 hours per day. We understand that things come up, so when they do you only need to communicate when you are unable to make it.
