ORGANIZATION: North Platte Area Ready to Serve Program (RSVP)

  • 2 people are interested

The city of North Platte traces its beginnings to railroading, which in 1863 stretched its iron rails across the prairies to complete the nation's first transcontinental railroad.

North Platte is home to the largest railroad classification yard in the world and still expanding. Union Pacific's Baily Yard employs over 2,500 men and women, covers 2,850 acres and switches 10,000 railcars daily. The main rail line through North Platte is the busiest rail freight corridor in the nation, with more than 135 trains operating over the line every 24 hours.

Volunteers are needed at the Golden Spike, to serve as greeters, to answer questions, give tours of the Golden Spike facility and assist in the gift shop.

Call RSVP at 535-6777 for more information.

The Golden Spike Tower still has openings available for 8 th floor guides & 1 st floor greeters for anyone who is interested in volunteering there. The Golden Spike Tower is open all year around, so we have shifts available in every season. If you are interested in volunteering at the Golden Spike Tower, please call Danika Cumming, Volunteer Coordinator, at 532-9920 ext. 204 for additional information.
