Calling all Warm-hearted individuals!

Thank you for your interest in the Volunteer Ombudsman Program. We look forward to the possibility of working with you to advocate on behalf of residents in long term care (LTC) facilities.

When an individual enters a nursing facility, they do not lose any of the rights they had when they lived in the community; they have only changed an address. Sadly most people fail to be aware of, understand or know how to secure and maintain their rights as a resident of an LTC facility. This can and has been changed through the dedicated efforts of certified volunteer ombudsmen.

What is a Long-term Care Ombudsman?

The Certified Volunteer Ombudsman is an advocate who assists residents and families in identifying and resolving complaints and issues concerning the health, safety, welfare, quality of life and rights that affect residents in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. You schedule your visits at your convenience.

  • Help residents articulate needs.

When residents enter a LTC facility, they are sick and frail, may not have family or friends to assist them and are in a totally different environment than where they are used to living.
