ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - National Headquarters

Purpose Statement:
This is a 100% remote (volunteer-from-home) position. A Volunteer Partner serves as a peer and confidante working collaboratively with a Red Cross leader to achieve Red Cross goals and objectives. This position supports the National Headquarters Program Manager for Services to the Armed Forces (SAF) Partnerships with SAF-Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) engagement. In this role, the volunteer will support the development of policies and programs to further SAF-DCS collaboration. This work supports Divisional and Regional staff, both CONUS (Continental United States) and OCONUS (Outside the Continental US), during steady and operational states.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute an implementation work plan outlining objectives, strategies, and tactics supporting SAF’s priorities.
  • Set realistic targets and focus on delivering results.
  • Proactively identify and respond to challenges impacting the SAF’s priorities with steps to address those challenges.
  • Build a culture that supports the Red Cross mission.
  • Design an ongoing succession plan, consistent with the development/training program.
  • Key Involvement in Ad Hoc projects (both tactical and strategic) as and when required.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager for SAF Partnerships to develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures in support of SAF-DCS collaboration.
  • Provide support to Divisional and Regional staff, both CONUS and OCONUS, during steady and operational states.
  • Attend and/or lead meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with Policy and Program Development team members to support ongoing projects.
  • Develop reports for and make recommendations to leadership staff

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Required:

    • Passion to support the Red Cross mission
    • Knowledge of DCS policies, programs, and procedures and/or experience with disaster response outside of the American Red Cross.
    • Experience with data collection, analysis, and report writing.
    • Computer skills and working knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel
    • Strategic thinking and process-oriented with regards to decision making and implementation planning.
    • Ability to interact effectively with audiences from a variety of backgrounds.
    • Strong communication skills verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences including Red Cross leadership staff.
    • Able to understand and communicate the organization’s vision and mission.
    • Relationship building skills working collaboratively with staff partners as well as board members, senior management, and other internal partners.
    • Flexible and able to adapt quickly to schedule changes.
    • Work well both individually and with others.
    • Familiarity of and appreciation for military culture, military families, and veterans' issues.
    • Proven leadership in nonprofit or for-profit organizations.
    • Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies
    • Must reside in the United States

    Preferred:

    • Red Cross SAF experience
    • Military Service experience
    • Knowledge of military and community resources

REQUIREMENTS

  • Approximately 10-20 hours per week within the hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm EST, M/T/W/TH/F. Volunteer will occasionally be asked to provide support outside of these hours during active operations. Not required to be on-call.
  • Volunteer Frequency: Weekly Length of Appointment: 1 year
