ORGANIZATION: City of Westminster

"Everyone thinks they have the best dog, and none of them are wrong."

This position involves sitting with your therapy certified dog (see qualifications below) while beginner/struggling readers read books out loud. Children have 15 minute private sessions, with a maximum of four children per evening or afternoon session.

About you:

Handlers are encouraged to sign up for one 2 hour shift per month, possibly more as needed. Sessions are:

- every Monday afternoon
- the second and fourth Saturday afternoons of each month

Teams must be certified through a nationally recognized therapy organization, preferably R.E.A.D. certified. The dogs must be friendly and reliable around little children. Handlers must love books and working with beginner readers. Handlers are not required to correct the readers, though gentle encouragement may be helpful.
