The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) is a non-profit organization that enriches the world by collecting, preserving, and making accessible a wide variety of musical instruments and performance videos from every country in the world. We offer our guests a welcoming and fun experience, incomparable interactive technology, dynamic programming, and exceptional musical performances. MIM also fosters appreciation of diverse cultures around the globe by showing that we all innovate, adapt, and learn from each other to create music-the language of the soul.

Volunteer team members play an integral role in ensuring that MIM achieves its mission of fostering an appreciation for the incredible musical similarities and unique differences of diverse cultures throughout the world. Student volunteers have the opportunity to develop professional skills within a museum setting and join a growing community of individuals who appreciate music, education, museums, and the arts.

As a whole, student volunteers are needed in a variety of capacities, including at Guest Service, in the Galleries, and at special events.

Mission Statement

The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) enriches our world by collecting, preserving, and making accessible an astonishing variety of musical instruments and performance videos from every country in the world. MIM offers guests a welcoming and fun experience, incomparable interactive technology, dynamic programming, and exceptional musical performances. MIM fosters appreciation of the world’s diverse cultures by showing how we innovate, adapt, and learn from each other to create music--the language of the soul.

Description

MIM displays more than 6,800 instruments collected from around 200 of the world’s countries and territories. Most displays are enhanced by state-of-the-art audio and video technologies that allow guests to see the instruments, hear their sounds, and observe them being played in their original contexts-performances that are often as spectacular as the instruments themselves. What’s more, all guests are invited to play instruments from around the world in the Experience Gallery. They can also see instruments from music icons such as John Lennon, Taylor Swift, Elvis Presley (r), Carlos Santana, and many more in the Artist Gallery.
