ORGANIZATION: Heartland Hospice Atlanta

The Atlanta office of Heartland Hospice is currently seeking caring volunteers to support our agency by providing friendly visits, vigil and bereavement support, or administrative assistance. The Atlanta office welcomes compassionate volunteers in the following counties that the agency serves: Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Fayette, Clayton, Henry, Rockdale, Newton, and Walton.

Current volunteer opportunities include:

* Administrative volunteers perform duties to assist within the office setting such as providing support in organizing, filing, answering calls, and clerical tasks.

* Friendly visitor volunteers provide companionship to terminally ill patients as well as respite support for caregivers, and friendly visitors may assist with running errands or other duties to provide relief to the families we serve.

* Vigil visitor volunteers provide supportive presence during the expected final hours of life for patients and their support systems. Bereavement volunteers offer supportive outreach to family members during the earliest stages of grief and mourning.

Volunteers are the heart of the hospice team and Heartland Hospice depends on volunteers to help us provide the extra love and care that our patients and their families need at this time in their lives. Hospice volunteers are oriented to the hospice program as well as the hospice philosophy and goals of caring to ensure that they have the skills needed to assist patients and their families. Volunteers offer support, companionship, and practical compassionate help whether it is running errands, staying with the patient so family members can take a break, reading to a patient, or holding someone’s hand.   • Driver's License Needed
  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • Administrative: 1 hour per month minimum with flexible schedules available during office hours Monday through Friday between 8 AM to 5 PM. Friendly visitors: 1 hour per visit minimum with flexible schedules available for weekday or weekend visits.
  • Volunteers must be 18 years or older, have reliable transportation, and submit to the application screening process including a background check, reference check, drug testing, TB testing.
