Hello, we are a homeless shelter for homeless LGBT young adults from 18-26 and we're desperately looking for help and support in our Human Resources area of the non-profit. We have limited funding but what we do have is usually used paying other operational needs to keep the shelter running so having a volunteer that is professional and passionate would help us apply additional or remaining money to the cause.

Here are a few things that we need support in:

  • Advises management regarding promotion, termination, disciplinary, and commendatory actions for all employees.
  • Work with staff and managers to investigate and respond to employee relations issues and concerns
  • Collaboratively improves key processes and procedures, such as recruitment, onboarding, orientation and policy implementation.
  • Engages in recruitment of new staff, leading the process with managers and ensuring a passionate and talented applicant pool.
  • Represents the HR Department in internal workgroups and committees.
  • Models and reinforces the core values of dignity, authenticity, hope, justice, passion and balance
  • Protects clients’ personal health information by maintaining compliance with HIPAA and other relevant health care-related IT security regulations
  • Performs other duties on an as-needed basis
  • Acts as an advocate and trusted sounding board for staff, coaching them to their own solutions.

About HBP RAIN Foundation dba Essex County RAIN Foundation

Location:

168 Park Street, East Orange, NJ 07017, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to help individuals by providing transitional housing solutions to address the emergent need of LGBT individuals experiencing crisis leading to homelessness. Through integrated solutions we offer educational & financial responsibility resources as well as wrap around services in substance abuse and mental health counseling and drug testing. We are dedicated to bringing opportunities to troubled individuals in Greater Newark and surrounding communities.

Description

People are identifying publicly as LGBT at younger ages than in the past. Many LGBT individuals face harassment, violence, stigma, rejection, and discrimination in their families, schools, employment, and social settings. LGBT youth face the ire and rejection of unaccepting family members and are often unable to access traditional shelter settings when they find themselves homeless through no fault of their own. Although Essex County has one of the highest rates of homelessness in New Jersey, there is a woeful lack of services for LGBT individuals in this community.

We work to offer:

  • Career Planning and Employment Preparation
  • Life Skills Training
  • Develop Comprehensive Evaluation Tool to determine outcomes and identify critical issues and gaps in services
