Volunteers on the Loyal Friends Pet Team visit patients and families who would not ordinarily have the benefit of animal companionship. Loyal Friends Pet Team Volunteers share the "unconditional love" of their pet with others. Pets and their handlers must be certified by Pet Partners or Therapy Dogs International and are required be up-to-date on vaccinations. After (human) volunteers have completed orientation and training as a Direct Patient Care Volunteer and pets have a behavioral assessment by the Volunteer Department, they can make visits to patients at home or nursing facilities. Ongoing support and education opportunities are provided in addition to orientation and training to be sure you feel ready and equipped to help our patients. Hours are flexible, depending on your schedule. For more information about the pet certification process, check out www.petpartners.org or www.tdi-dog.org
