Accencare Hospice is looking to for Pre-Medical and Medical School Students to join our interdisciplinary team for an exciting volunteer and educational opportunity. Together, we will explore disease from the perspective of being more than just a physical experience. This is an opportunity to personally engage the emotional and spiritual needs and realities of patients with terminal illness. As a Accentcare Hospice Volunteer you Will be responsible for patient visits a few times a month. This can consist of being an active presence, deep listener, as well as as a myriad of other creative opportunities. - "I learned about a lot of things in medical school, but mortality wasn’t one of them. Although I was given a dry, leathery corpse to dissect in my first term, that was solely a way to learn about human anatomy. Our textbooks had almost nothing on aging or frailty or dying. How the process unfolds, how people experience the end of their lives, and how it affects those around them seemed beside the point. The way we saw it, and the way our professors saw it, the purpose of medical schooling was to teach how to save lives, not how to tend to their demise." ? Accentcare Hospice is seeking volunteers for our music companion program. We are reaching out to our community in hopes of finding music enthusiasts. We are looking for folks who play an instrument, sing, or who are willing to be a supportive presence and just press play on a boom box. Our volunteers give their time to help patients and families who are dealing with terminal illness and death. Volunteer training is provided, as well as ongoing support and education opportunities to be sure you feel ready and equipped to help our patients. We are hoping that this opportunity will spark an interest in the hearts of musicians who are looking for a meaningful volunteer experience.
