The Backside Learning Center is looking for volunteers to tutor individuals for their GED or Citizenship Exam. Each of the two tests can be very lengthy and difficult to study for on your own. Many of the students interested have learned English while living in the United States and would benefit from studying with a native English speaker. The citizenship exam requires that the applicant fills out numerous personal and professional documents, as well as, recite U.S. historical information. The GED exam covers both English language and Mathematics sections. The study materials for both tests are available at the center and tutoring sessions will take place at our learning center on the backside of Churchill Downs.

Description
The Backside Learning Center provides free educational services to the men and women who work with the thoroughberd horses in the barn area, or backside, of Churchill Downs and Trackside in Louisville, KY. Our programming includes English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL), technology workshops, citizenship tutoring, art class, and music class. All of our classes & tutoring depend on volunteers. Family Education Program focusing on afterschool homework assistance for equine workers' children,
Note: BLC hours are between 9:00 am-8:00 pm Monday thru Friday. Days, times and frequency of direct service will fall between these hours but will depend upon the work schedule and availability of students and volunteers.
