Final opportunity to join the Fall hotline volunteer training with Samaritans of New York, which operates the city’s 24-hour suicide prevention hotline. Samaritans is part of an international network of 400 centers in 42 countries where over 20,000 volunteers provide crisis response and emotional support services to people who are in distress, depressed and suicidal.

Requirements: We are currently seeking volunteers who can donate one weekday morning, afternoon, evening or weekend shift a week and one overnight a month. You'll be joining a group of dedicated volunteers from NYC’s diverse communities who work together in a supportive environment in a convenient Village location. Must be at least 21, have good English speaking and written skills and be able make a 6-month commitment after training. No experience necessary!

The Samaritans of New York is the local branch of the world's oldest and largest volunteer crisis response network with 400 centers in 40 countries. Samaritans is devoted to helping people who feel depressed, in crisis or suicidal as well as those who provide care and support to people in crisis and those who have lost a loved one to suicide.
Description
Samaritans is a non-religious, non-profit organization that runs NYC's confidential, 24-hour crisis response hotline staffed entirely by trained volunteers who provide emotional support to people who are depressed, overwhelmed or in crisis; as well as support groups for those who have lost a loved one to suicide and public education programs that raise awareness around suicide and the keys to its prevention.
